Hybrid Mobile App
My role: Visuals, animation, and interface design for D.C.’s annual Funk Parade festival app. Reused & reskinned for 3 years running!

The Funk Parade is one of DC’s coolest events. It’s a multi-day celebration of the spirit of funk and nod to the deep heritage of jazz in the District. With street festivals, a mighty parade and nightly music & dance parties, they needed a mobile app to showcase events, venues, artists and share the schedule for party-goers. The app also contained a featured artists playlist that could be played natively in the app itself!
The theme for 2017’s event was “Future Funk” which gave me a lot of fun(k) vibes to work with!

Inspo pulled from Snapchat to give a raw, grassroots feel; and Spotify to provide a solid, familiar experience for the music player.

The extra sweat & tears put in to make sure this app felt cool enough for the event it was representing, were definitely worth it!
While 2017 was the original version, the app has been reused for two additional years running, being reskinned for each year’s theme. Long live the Funk Parade!

Much exploration & troubleshooting went in to making sure the animations were seamlessly integrated into the app without too much lift on the part of the engineers.
